![]() Stephanie Jones, coauthor of the study, illuminates how mindfulness meditation may affect basic brain function: “Given what we know about how alpha waves arise from electrical currents in sensory cortical cells, these data suggest that mindfulness meditation practitioners can use the mind to enhance regulation of currents in targeted cortical cells. The activity of the alpha rhythm in the cortex acts to “suppress irrelevant or distracting sensations and regulate the flow of sensory information between brain regions.”ĭr. This frequency basically acts as a regulatory mechanism for the flow of information through the mind. ![]() The alpha rhythm is especially active in the brain cells (in the cortex) that process touch, sight, and sound. Our discovery that mindfulness meditators more quickly adjusted the brain wave that screens out distraction could explain their superior ability to rapidly remember and incorporate new facts.” Catherine Kerr, coauthor of the study, explains that “mindfulness meditation has been reported to enhance numerous mental abilities, including rapid memory recall. In a fast-paced society plentiful with distractions, the ability to effectively regulate one’s attention in this way is quite useful.ĭr. ![]() Researchers at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH), Harvard Medical School, and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) have found that “modulation of the alpha rhythm in response to attention-directing cues was faster and significantly more enhanced among study participants who completed an eight-week mindfulness meditation program than in a control group.” The alpha rhythm is a crucial brain wave that is thought to essentially “turn down the volume” on distracting information. Some people report being more present in the moment, more aware of their surroundings, and more aware of their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. Many people who regularly engage in a mindfulness practice report that the choice to become more mindful in their daily life has resulted in a dramatic lifestyle change. The positive benefits of mindfulness meditation can be incredibly far reaching, affecting many areas of your life. ![]() Know well what leads you forward and what holds you back, and choose the path that leads to wisdom.” – Buddha “Meditation brings wisdom lack of meditation leaves ignorance. ![]() ![]() ![]() Now officially available after a period in public beta, Cineware for Unity automates the process of preparing Cinema 4D project files for use inside Unity, converting geometry, materials and lights.Īs well as base geometry, the plugin supports vertex properties, including skinning weights and converts skin and binding rigs and pose morphs for characters. To make a bit of a literary comparison, Blood Dragon has the open world equivalent of a short story or novella. In part this is a consequence of the stand-alone game’s budget nature (it’s $15 USD rather than $50-60,) but it’s a design decision that works rather well. That’s exactly the route taken by Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon, which reduces the original game’s island area to a more compact space that Sergeant Rex Power Colt’s cyber-legs can sprint across in a matter of minutes. At that point, maybe it would’ve been better just to make the world smaller? The quicker the player begins to rely on a fast travel system to zip around the place, the more likely it is that the bits in between just aren’t worth seeing more than once or twice. There’s always a risk with these projects that huge swathes of the landscape actually turn out to be quite dull. If, that is, the developers have the time, creativity and/or processing power to add them in. The more of the world there is to tromp around in (the theory goes,) the greater the chance of finding multiple, interesting things to do and see. Players who gravitate to these titles love exploration, and open world titles cater to that desire. ![]() It’s no surprise that CD Projekt has been keen to run the “bigger than Skyrim, 30 times larger than The Witcher 2” line about upcoming, open world sequel The Witcher 3. Open worlds tend to be all about letting the player roam freely through whatever countryside, cityscape or weird planet the developers have put together, and in contemporary gaming that tends to mean vast, expansive spaces. It might take you back to some classics like Daggerfall or Grand Theft Auto III.Ĭhances are, the phrase will give you a sense of scale and scope. Your brain will probably do that thing brains do and make a connection to a different, recent game with the same descriptor. When a game is described as ‘open world,’ certain titles and expectations come to mind. ![]() ![]()

He was of Berber lineage, but was born in Dallas, Egypt the year 608 AH. It has been translated into a number of languages. Other spellings include Burdah, Qasidah Burdah, Qaseeda Burdah and it is also known as the Burda Shareef. His poem was therefore known as the Burda. When he finished reciting it, The Prophet ﷺ threw his mantle (burda) to Ka'b. After composing Burda he saw a dream, where The Prophet ﷺ covered the Al Busiri with his ﷺ mantle (burda). Al Busiri starts by expressing his own love for The Prophet ﷺ and then mentions his regret for past errors. It is most widely known by the refrain, often sung between verses: The actual title of the poem is The Celestial Lights in Praise of the Best of Creation (الكواكب الدرية في مدح خير البرية). It was composed by Al Busiri in the 7th century Hijri and is one of the most widely recited and memorised poems in the world. So we have used contemporary stereotypes of teenagers for example a teenage girl dies first, this is to match the gender stereotype of a female being weak and powerless, the other stereotype we have used is age because the girl is a teenager and they are usually stereotyped as inexperienced and unconversant. Our media product represents a range of social groups, for example gender, age, social class and ability. Our media product represents particular social groups a particular one is age for example teenagers because we do not have any adults or children in the product. ![]() How does your media product represent particular social groups? Another difference that clearly indicates my skills have improved as the academic year has gone on is the use of diegetic sound correctly, in our preliminary task diegetic sound of people talking can be heard throughout, however in our opening sequence diegetic sound has been used effectively for example the wind in the forest to add an isolated effect for example. However in our final draft of Final Warning a match on action is used when the girl is trying to escape where she is running through the forest, the difference between the two match on actions is the final draft of the opening sequence Final Warning uses match on action for effect for example through showing many shots of the girl running it gives the effect the forest is larger than it actually is adding tension. I will be comparing my preliminary task to my final draft of Final Warning, as you can see in my preliminary task we have used a match on action where Ben is about to enter the classroom and then he is in the classroom this is a simple match on action with limited effect. Here is my final draft of our opening sequence Final Warning: ![]() |
